Current Openings
I do not currently have any open staff positions, but check back in the future.
Graduate Students
When: I follow a relatively standard US graduate program recruitment cycle: prospective graduate students would ideally start in the Fall semester, which means they should apply to the graduate program(s) (see below) the previous Fall semester (specifically, by December 1st). This application deadline facilitates opportunities for securing fellowships and and aligns with the majority of other graduate admissions decisions. All graduate applications and admissions decisions ultimately must go through the graduate program. Applicants are encouraged to reach out to me prior to applying to discuss interests, goals, and opportunities.
Where: I am a graduate advisor for the Entomology Graduate Program, the Plant and Microbial Biology Graduate Program, and the Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior Graduate Program. Students interested in my lab ultimately need to apply to their program(s) of interest to be considered. Across the University of Minnesota, the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences, the College of Biological Sciences, the Department of Entomology, and other units and funding agencies, there are many fellowships that would open up options, in addition to potential funding opportunities from within the lab.
Who: Ideal graduate candidates will have:
– A bachelor’s degree in a field of or related to biological sciences and prior research experience.
– A keen interest in interdisciplinary foundational research that is focused on the biological questions.
– A strong preference for research projects that leverage the tools of genetics, genomics, evolution, and molecular & cell biology.
– Motivation to develop and pursue research questions that are aligned with the lab’s primary interests: reproduction and Wolbachia.
– Curiosity, professionalism, and a commitment to building a supportive, kind, and inclusive lab environment.
